It’s been a busy time for Paramount Group recently with no fewer than four new websites launched to meet the specialist financial needs of our growing customer base.

Finance in Divorce

While divorce rates overall are falling, 132,562 couples still decided to untie the knot in 2006.  And there has even been an increase in those over 60 seeking a divorce. This all means people who have shared banking-related burdens for years will suddenly have to fend for themselves financially, perhaps for the first time.

Paramount Finance in Divorce, at www.financeindivorce.co.uk offers advice on every aspect of dealing with finance following a break-up in a relationship, including pension rights and planning, maintenance payments, investment advice and mortgages.

If you’re keen not to involve the courts, we have some of the first practitioners in the country qualified in Collaborative Law.  We can also offer people the option to see a female adviser if they prefer.

Medical Money Matters

In late-August, we launched a dedicated website for Independent Medical Solutions, a Paramount service that caters for the very specific needs of those in the medical profession.

Visitors to www.paramountifa.co.uk/ims will see that, unlike many other companies that boast knowledge of this sector, we won’t approach medics while they’re busy at work.  We offer appointments to suit medics’ busy, and often unpredictable, schedules as well as tailored advice to encompass NHS benefits and advice on A-Day provisions e.g. transitional arrangements, savings and investments, pensions, and finance for investing in a practice.

You can also visit the website to subscribe to Money Matters, the new IMS newsletter, or to tell us what seminars you’d like us to arrange for you and your colleagues.

Paramount Mortgages

Whether you’re thinking of buying a new house, perhaps as a first-time buyer, want to extend your existing home, need to remortgage a property or are investing in a buy-to-let, Paramount has access to the full range of mortgage lenders.

www.paramountmortgages.co.uk, a new site which went live in October, provides a complete breakdown of the areas of financial planning you need to think about when buying a property.  You can check out the best-buys on the market, and even calculate what your monthly repayments will be on your dream home.

Paramount Pensionlink

Paramount Pensionlink – at www.paramount-pensionlink.co.uk - provides advice on pensions and retirement issues to individuals, employers, trustees and the members of occupational pension schemes.

Working in conjunction with major employers, Paramount Pensionlink has devised a range of corporate services to complement the information already available from the scheme trustees and administrators, who are themselves unable to advise members on their plans for retirement. Innovatively, much of this work is done by telephone and e-mail, which ensures a rapid response and tighter cost-control than with traditional methods of operation.

!Important changes- Important changes - Important changes!

You may be affected by changes proposed in the Chancellor’s Pre-Budget Report on 9 October.

If you fall into any of the categories below, you should call us now on 01924 351000 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Business owners or shareholders with plans to sell

With the proposed withdrawal of business taper relief set to increase the effective rate of Capital Gains Tax from 10% currently to a flat 18% from April 2008, you may want to consider selling sooner.  You will need to talk to a qualified adviser about the wider implications.

Anyone with stockbroker or discretionary investment portfolios, with “pregnant” gains

Planned changes in Capital Gains Tax will affect private investors too. With the annual exemption set at £9,200, investors will want to realise gains to that level, but assets that are pregnant with gains may not be the ones you want to get rid of. Indexation and taper relief will be abolished, and the rate of CGT reduced to 18%.  You should have your assets reviewed to see whether any action needs to be taken prior to 6 April 2008 to make the most of existing reliefs.

Potentially subject to Inheritance Tax

It is now possible to transfer an IHT allowance between partners on death.  Contact us to examine alternative migration solutions. You should also review your Will to take account of the new rules.

Investment bonds holders

If you have effected investment bonds for balance sheet/investment purposes, you need to review your position urgently. Call us now to arrange your review.

April is closer than you think

Remember, you have only until 6 April to make sure any changes to your financial planning are in place.  Advisers, providers, financial institutions and administrative departments will be inundated in the rush to get everything finalised in time – and tax is a complex subject.  Make an early new year’s resolution to beat the rush and contact us now to review your financial position and how the changes above will affect you.
